Cellist & Composer Sean Kim has garnered prizes in prestigious string and composition competitions while maintaining a rigorous performing schedule.
As a Cellist, he has performed as a soloist with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, the Londontowne Symphony Orchestra, the Landon Symphonette Orchestra, and the Maryland Columbia Orchestra upon winning the annual Concerto Competitions. Sean won first place in the International Concerto Competition at the American Fine Arts Festival in New York City, American Protégé International Concerto Competition, Columbia Orchestra Young Artist Competition, Howard County High School Gifted and Talented Orchestra Concerto Competition, the Landon Symphonette Orchestra Concerto Competition, and the Maryland State Music Teachers Association String Competition,
He was also the state alternate winner of the Music Teacher National Association Competition and the Frederick Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition. Moreover, he was also a finalist in the University of Maryland Concerto Competition as well as a prize winner in the U.S. Army Orchestra Concerto Competition, Joseph & Goldie Feder Memorial String Competition, Montgomery Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, Young Artist Orchestra Concerto Competition, and the Young Musicians Inspiring Change Competition. Additionally, he also performed at the Carnegie Weill Recital Hall in New York City.
Sean has been playing the cello since the age of five and made his orchestral debut as a soloist at the age of thirteen. He also served as principal cellist for the Burleigh Manor Middle School Chamber Orchestra in Ellicott city, Maryland where he performed as a soloist with its chamber ensemble. In addition, Sean has served as the principal cellist in the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Side by Side concert and was a cellist in the Peabody Youth Orchestra and the University of Maryland Symphony Orchestra.
As a composer, Sean has won 1st place in the University of Maryland #RemixTerps Competition for his 12 Cello arrangement of the UMD Fight Song as well as 2nd place in the Great Composers Competition Rising Talents of Americas for his composition, Theme & Variation for Solo Cello. His music has been played by various ensembles such as the American Brass Quintet from the Juilliard School of Music, the Terps Cello Ensemble, and the University of Maryland Symphony Orchestra.
